Defined simply, interactive design is the design of the interaction between users and products. Bill Verplank describes interactive design as design for the people. As designers, we need to receive feedback from the world to create successful solutions. We need to understand the user’s needs, limitations and contexts to suit demands. We need to ask; How do you ..do? How do you ..know? How do you feel?. The designing of interactive products is to support people in their everyday and working lives. In other words, the goal of interactive design is to create a product that will enable it’s user to complete and achieve their goals in the best way possible.

One of the most important aspects of interactive design is interactivity. So what is it? It’s computer science that’s made of/or relating to a program that responds to user activity. In other words, it refers to the process between a person and thing working together and the way in which they can influence each other. It works hand in hand with information architecture, time and motion, narrative and interface design. They act and/or influence each other, working together so the total effect is substantial.
