UI Visual Design Patterns

User Interface Visual Design is often mistaken for just the visual aspect of a interactive when it is much more. It’s the connection between the user and the experience. Interface design is about presenting the user with the right tools to accomplish their goals. All other aspects discussed earlier significantly contribute to the success of the interface design. A successful user interface design has a balance between aesthetics and effortless interactivity. It should guide the user through the experience seamlessly. You want the users experience to be enjoyable so look, feel and usability are important aspects of the final interactive design.

Design patterns provide solutions. They are standards reference points for designers when building an interactive. Common navigation patterns fall into this category. These include:

Tabs

  • Navigation Tabs
  • Module Tabs

Menus

  • Horizontal Dropdown Menu
  • Vertical Dropdown Menu
  • Accordion Menu

Jumping in hierarchy

  • Shortcut Dropdown
  • Footer
  • Home Link
  • Breadcrumbs

Content

  • Carousel
  • Event Calendar
  • Article List
